PARANG, Maguindanao del Norte — A payong-payong driver was injured after being shot while waiting for a passenger in Barangay Magsaysay, Parang, at around 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in a daylight attack that shocked residents of the area.

Police identified the victim as Macacua D. Ayob, a resident of Barangay Polloc, Parang. He was reportedly sitting on his motorcycle, waiting for a passenger, when a lone male suspect approached and suddenly opened fire, hitting him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Initial investigation by the Parang Municipal Police Station (MPS) revealed that the suspect was identified as Anwar Abo, a resident of Barangay Magsaysay. Authorities said the attack appeared to be targeted, although the exact motive remains under investigation.

Following the incident, responding police units from Parang MPS immediately secured the area and conducted a follow-up operation to track down the suspect. Several pieces of evidence were recovered from the crime scene and are now undergoing forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The victim was rushed to the Iranun District Hospital for initial medical treatment before being transferred to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center for further care due to the severity of his injuries. His current condition has not yet been fully disclosed by hospital authorities.

Residents of Barangay Magsaysay, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte expressed alarm over the brazen daytime shooting, which occurred in a public area while the victim was simply waiting for passengers.

Authorities have intensified their manhunt for the suspect and are coordinating intelligence efforts to locate and arrest him at the soonest possible time. Police also continue to gather statements from witnesses and review possible leads to determine the motive behind the attack.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement seeks to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspect and bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
