POONA PIAGAPO, Lanao del Norte — April 3, 2026 — A long-standing clan conflict was formally resolved on Friday as two prominent families in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur sealed a peace agreement through a traditional rido settlement, marking a significant step toward restoring stability in the area.

The reconciliation took place at the Municipal Gymnasium in Barangay Pened, Poona Piagapo, bringing together members of the Hassanor Mangandiri Pumbaya clan and the Omar Sirad Dimaporo clan in a ceremony grounded in cultural and religious traditions.

The activity was spearheaded by local government units, with Poona Piagapo Mayor Engr. Ashley “Kaulit” Dacsla Rakiin-Sarip and Wato-Balindong Mayor Reggie Bagul leading the initiative to mediate the conflict and guide both parties toward peaceful resolution.

Representing the Philippine National Police, PLTCOL Cadapi P. Dansal, Chief of the Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU), and PLTCOL Salman M. Saad, Chief of the Provincial Police Public Information Unit (PPPU), actively participated in the proceedings under the supervision of PCOL Leo De Leon Sua, Acting Provincial Director of the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office.

The program featured solidarity messages from key officials, emphasizing unity and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution. A peace covenant was formally signed by both clans, followed by an oath-taking on the Holy Qur’an—an essential element symbolizing sincerity and binding commitment in accordance with Islamic traditions.

The highlight of the event was the formal reconciliation of the two clans, ending hostilities that had previously threatened peace and security in their respective communities.

Authorities said the settlement aimed not only to resolve the immediate dispute but also to prevent further violence and retaliation, which are often associated with rido, or clan feuds, in parts of Mindanao. Through dialogue, mediation, and mutual understanding, both parties agreed to move forward in cooperation and respect.

Officials underscored that the initiative aligns with the broader peace and order campaign of the provincial government and the Philippine National Police, which prioritizes culturally sensitive approaches in addressing local conflicts.

“This settlement demonstrates that enduring peace can be achieved through unity, respect for tradition, and collective action,” a police official said during the ceremony.

The successful mediation is expected to contribute to long-term stability and development in the province, reinforcing efforts to address deep-rooted conflicts and foster harmony among communities in Lanao del Norte and neighboring areas.
