QUEZON, Bukidnon — A cache of high-powered firearms and explosive materials was successfully recovered by government troops following an intelligence-driven operation in southern Bukidnon, military officials confirmed.

The operation, conducted on March 27, 2026, in the barangays of Kipaypayon and Mahayag in the municipality of Quezon, was led by the 89th Infantry Battalion under the command of Antonio G. Bulao I.
Recovered during the operation were a significant number of firearms, including two M79 grenade launchers, two KG9 submachine guns, three improvised shotguns, a pistol-type shotgun, a caliber .45 pistol, four .357 revolvers, a .38 revolver, a .38 pistol-type firearm, and a .22 caliber pistol.
Authorities also seized explosive devices and war materiel, notably two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and a hand grenade. Additional items included unserviceable Baofeng radios, subversive documents, assorted ammunition, and various firearm components.
All recovered items were secured and transported to the battalion’s headquarters for proper documentation, safekeeping, and disposition, according to military reports.
Military officials emphasized that the success of the operation was largely due to the cooperation of local residents who provided critical information. The community’s active involvement, they said, played a vital role in disrupting potential insurgency-related threats and preventing the possible use of the recovered weapons in hostile activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Bulao lauded the support of civilians, stressing that community participation remains key in sustaining peace and security in the area.
“We remain steadfast in sustaining peace in Southern Bukidnon. This success reflects the strength of community participation—by working together, we ensure that our communities remain safe and peaceful,” Bulao said.
The Philippine Army continues to intensify its intelligence and security operations in parts of Bukidnon, a province that has historically faced insurgency challenges, as part of broader efforts to maintain stability and protect communities in Northern Mindanao.
