DAVAO CITY — A 32-year-old Finnish national was arrested after allegedly striking a traffic enforcer and fleeing the scene during a vehicular incident in Barangay Buhangin on March 27, 2026, authorities confirmed.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), through Police Station 5 – Buhangin, identified the suspect only as “Alias Erik,” a resident of Midland Valley Homes in Kalasungay, Bukidnon.
According to the police report, the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. along Km 6, Milan, Buhangin. A traffic enforcer flagged down the suspect for driving against the flow of traffic—a serious violation that poses danger to motorists and pedestrians alike. However, instead of complying with the lawful order, the suspect allegedly ignored instructions, continued driving forward, and struck the enforcer on the right shoulder.
Authorities said the suspect then fled the scene, heading northbound, prompting an immediate pursuit operation.
A coordinated response involving the traffic enforcer, the Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU), and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office led to the successful interception of the suspect along Maharlika Highway in Tibungco.
The suspect and the vehicle he was driving—a Toyota Revo Wagon—were brought to Buhangin Police Station for proper disposition. Police said the foreign national was informed of his constitutional rights in a language he understood and is now under custody.
Charges were formally filed on March 28, 2026, before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Ecoland, Davao City. The suspect faces multiple cases, including violation of Republic Act No. 10952 and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority. He is also charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injury.
Under Philippine law, reckless imprudence refers to acts committed without malicious intent but with inexcusable lack of precaution, resulting in harm to persons or property. Legal experts note that such offenses, particularly when committed on public roads, carry both criminal and civil liabilities.
Public Safety Reminder
The DCPO reiterated the importance of strict adherence to traffic laws, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility among all motorists.
Authorities stressed that disregarding traffic enforcers, violating road rules, and fleeing the scene of an incident not only aggravate legal consequences but also endanger lives. Motorists involved in violations or accidents are urged to cooperate with authorities and follow lawful procedures.
“Responsible driving, discipline, and respect for authority are essential in maintaining peace and order on our roads,” the DCPO said.
The injured traffic enforcer is currently recovering, while further legal proceedings against the suspect are underway.
