BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — A major anti-illegal drug operation conducted by the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13) resulted in the seizure of approximately ₱1,224,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, on Wednesday, March 25, in Barangay Taligaman, this city.

The operation, carried out by joint elements of the Butuan City Police Station 4 and the Agusan del Norte Maritime Police Station, was backed by a search warrant issued by a local court. Authorities implemented the warrant at a rented residence in Purok 6, Barangay Taligaman, identified as the alleged drug den of a High-Value Individual (HVI) known by the alias “Fred,” 23.
However, despite the coordinated effort, the primary target managed to evade arrest and remains at large, prompting an intensified manhunt by local police units.
Substantial Drug Haul Recovered
According to PBGen Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV, operatives recovered 26 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated total weight of 180 grams. Authorities also seized a digital weighing scale and various drug paraphernalia believed to have been used in the illegal drug trade.
All confiscated items were properly marked, inventoried, and turned over to the operating units for documentation and further legal processing.
Operation Conducted Under Legal Protocols
The police emphasized that the operation strictly adhered to established legal procedures. Representatives from the barangay, the Department of Justice, and members of the media were present during the inventory and documentation of the seized evidence, ensuring transparency and integrity in the handling of the case.
Charges Filed; Manhunt Ongoing
Authorities confirmed that charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 will be filed against the suspect through regular legal procedures.
Meanwhile, PRO-13 assured the public that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect, as part of its sustained campaign against illegal drugs in the Caraga region.
The latest operation underscores the continuing crackdown of law enforcement agencies on high-value drug personalities, even as challenges persist in ensuring that key suspects are brought to justice.
