In line with its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children during times of crisis, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO officially launched and deployed its Child-Friendly Space Vehicle on February 6, 2026, at Rizal Park. This vital initiative aims to ensure that no child is left behind during disasters, particularly in terms of safety, mental health, and emotional resilience.

The Child-Friendly Space Vehicle serves as a mobile and secure environment where children affected by floods, typhoons, and other calamities can play, learn, and heal. Through structured psycho-social activities, storytelling sessions, creative workshops, and guided play, the program helps young survivors process their experiences, ease emotional distress, and gradually overcome trauma caused by disasters.
Funded through the Disaster Fund of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) under the Social Welfare and Development Office (SWOD), the project reflects the local government’s proactive and people-centered approach to disaster management. It recognizes that recovery is not limited to rebuilding infrastructure, but also includes restoring the emotional and psychological well-being of the most vulnerable members of the community.
During emergency situations, trained social workers, child development workers, and volunteers operate the mobile unit, ensuring that children receive immediate psychosocial support in evacuation centers and affected barangays. These interventions help prevent long-term psychological harm, promote positive coping mechanisms, and restore a sense of normalcy in the lives of displaced children.
Beyond disaster response, the Child-Friendly Space Vehicle also functions as a Mobile Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) unit during non-emergency periods. It reaches remote and underserved communities with limited access to daycare and early learning services, helping bridge educational gaps and promote holistic child development.
This initiative stands as a strong testament to the city government’s dedication to child protection, inclusive recovery, and community resilience. By prioritizing the mental, emotional, and developmental needs of children, the CSWDO reinforces the principle that true disaster preparedness and response must place children at the center.
Through the Child-Friendly Space Vehicle, the city continues to build safer, healthier, and more compassionate communities—where every child is protected, supported, and given the opportunity to heal and thrive, even in the face of adversity.
