A cache of high-powered firearms and illegal drugs was seized by police during the implementation of two search warrants in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, early morning of January 28, 2026.
Police said the operation was carried out at around 5:20 a.m. in Purok Sta. Cruz, Barangay Upper Libertad, by personnel of the Aurora Municipal Police Station, led by the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Intelligence Unit, in coordination with the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Intelligence Division, the 902nd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, and other operating units.
Recovered from the operation were a KG9 9mm sub-machine gun with one magazine assembly and 14 live rounds; a Colt MK IV caliber .45 pistol, chamber-loaded with four live rounds and a magazine; an extra caliber .45 magazine assembly; a caliber .357 revolver loaded with five live rounds; and a gas-operated rifle. Police also confiscated four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substances believed to be shabu—three large sachets and one medium-sized sachet.
Authorities estimated the seized shabu to weigh around 20 grams, with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of approximately ₱136,000.
A 37-year-old male suspect was arrested during the operation. Police withheld his identity pending further investigation. He is facing charges for violations of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police disclosed that the suspect is an ex-convict previously charged under R.A. 9165 and is being looked into for possible links to recent shooting incidents in the area.
The search warrants were issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, dated January 26, 2026.
The suspect is currently detained at the Aurora PNP lock-up cell, while all seized firearms, ammunition, and illegal drugs were turned over to the Aurora Municipal Police Station for inventory, proper documentation, and further case buildup.
