MAGSAYSAY, Misamis Oriental — A 22-year-old woman was found dead after she was brutally stabbed by her live-in partner inside their rented house in Purok 3, Barangay Bonifacio, Magsaysay town, police said.

The victim was identified as Gezil, 22. Police named the person of interest (POI) as alias “Sammy,” of legal age and a resident of Pangasihan, Gingoog City. Authorities have launched a hot pursuit operation to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.
According to the Magsaysay Municipal Police Station, they received a call from a concerned citizen at around 4:30 p.m. on January 24. However, investigators believe the stabbing incident occurred on the evening of January 23, 2026.
PSMS Sidrick Orinay, the case investigator, said that responding officers found the victim lifeless and lying in a pool of her own blood inside the rented house. Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) confirmed that Gezil sustained multiple stab wounds, including fatal injuries to the chest and back, which caused her immediate death.
Police believe jealousy was the primary motive for the killing. Investigators learned that the victim was allegedly planning to end her relationship with the suspect due to repeated abuse and maltreatment, which may have triggered the attack.
Orinay said authorities are considering filing a murder case against the suspect as the investigation continues. Police are also appealing to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect and ensure justice for the victim.
The incident adds to growing concerns over domestic violence, highlighting how jealousy and abuse can escalate into deadly violence if left unaddressed.
