PIGCAWAYAN/LIBUNGAN, Cotabato — Authorities intercepted a total of 37 vehicles, including 28 motorcycles, four tricycles, and five four-wheel vehicles, during a large-scale operation against illegal drag racing and the use of modified mufflers (locally known as “bora-bora”) in the early hours of January 24, 2026.

The operation was conducted at around 12:30 a.m. and was led by Police Major Arnold A. Andaya, with personnel from the Libungan and Pigcawayan Municipal Police Stations, the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (HPG), the Philippine Army units based in Libungan and Presbitero, as well as barangay officials and force multipliers.
Police said the vehicles were intercepted along the stretch of road from Barangay Presbitero in Pigcawayan, Cotabato, to Barangay Batiocan in Libungan, Cotabato, where motorists were allegedly participating in drag racing activities and operating vehicles equipped with loud, modified exhaust systems.
Authorities stressed that illegal drag racing and the use of modified mufflers are clear violations of the Municipal Traffic Code and local ordinances of Libungan, citing the danger these activities pose to motorists, residents, and pedestrians, especially during late-night hours.
All apprehended vehicles were impounded and brought to the HPG office in Midsayap, Cotabato, for further verification, documentation, and proper legal disposition.
Police officials warned that similar operations will continue as part of intensified efforts to curb reckless driving, reduce noise pollution, and ensure public safety on provincial roads. They also urged motorists to comply with traffic laws and local ordinances to avoid penalties and impoundment of their vehicles.
