Cotabato City, BARMM — A potentially volatile rido (clan conflict) triggered by a tragic vehicular accident has been peacefully resolved through mediation, preventing further violence and highlighting the importance of structured conflict resolution in the Bangsamoro region.

The conflict stemmed from a road accident on October 22, 2025, involving members of three families. The incident resulted in the death of a son from one family and injuries to another son, who was hospitalized and later recovered. What began as an unfortunate accident risked escalating into a prolonged clan feud if left unresolved.

The Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) facilitated the settlement, which was formally convened in Cotabato City on December 14, 2025, under the direct supervision of MPOS Deputy Minister Osmeña I. Montañer.

During the proceedings, Montañer stressed the importance of patience, restraint, and mutual understanding, citing a core Islamic principle that guided the mediation process: “Sabr is the key to overcoming trials and achieving peace.” The message underscored the need for calm and dialogue amid grief and heightened emotions.

Through respectful dialogue and careful mediation, all three families reached a consensus and formally agreed to end the dispute, ensuring the conflict would be contained and prevented from further escalation.

The MPOS commended the families for choosing peace and for resolving the matter through lawful and structured means. Officials noted that such outcomes demonstrate how mediation can effectively address emotionally charged disputes that might otherwise threaten community stability.

The successful resolution serves as a testament to the vital role of conflict resolution mechanisms in maintaining social harmony and breaking cycles of violence within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The MPOS reiterated its commitment to promoting peaceful solutions to inter-family and inter-community conflicts across the region.
