MALABANG, Lanao del Sur — Police operatives of the Malabang Municipal Police Station (MPS) arrested a male suspect for illegal possession of a firearm during a checkpoint operation in Barangay Campu Muslim on the evening of December 13, 2025.

The arrest was carried out at around 7:30 p.m. by personnel of the Malabang MPS led by Police Captain Esmer R. Gahi, Acting Chief of Police, in line with intensified security measures aimed at preventing criminal activities and the proliferation of loose firearms in the area.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession was a caliber .45 pistol, identified as an STI Ranger II bearing serial number 1550889, with one magazine inserted and four live rounds of ammunition. The suspect allegedly failed to present valid documents authorizing possession of the firearm, prompting his immediate arrest for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the Malabang Municipal Police Station while appropriate charges are being prepared for filing before the proper court.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to sustained checkpoint operations and called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement efforts to ensure peace and security in Malabang and neighboring areas.
