A 24-year-old man is recovering in a hospital after he was shot late Friday night, December 12, in Purok Pomelo, Barangay Tumbras, Special Geographic Area (SGA) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The victim was identified as John Mark Magalso, a single resident of the area. Police said the shooting occurred at around 8:45 p.m. while Magalso was on his way home after a drinking session.
Initial reports indicate that upon reaching the vicinity of Purok Pomelo, the victim was suddenly fired upon by an unidentified assailant. Magalso sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is now reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack and the identity of the suspect remains unknown. Police are continuing their investigation and have appealed to residents with information to come forward to help solve the case.
The incident adds to growing concerns over gun-related violence in parts of the SGA, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.
