Community outraged, family demands justice for brutal crime
MATALAM, Cotabato — A horrifying crime has shaken the province after the lifeless bodies of a 13-year-old girl and her 20-year-old uncle were discovered in a thicket in Sitio Kaya-Kaya, Barangay Marbel. The incident has sparked outrage, grief, and calls for swift justice.
The victims were identified as Elma Rose Marfil, 13, and her uncle Jojie Marfil, a fish vendor from Barangay Noa, Magpet. According to police reports, Jojie’s body was found on Tuesday, November 18, hanging from a tree. The following day, November 19, Elma Rose’s decomposing body was recovered nearby, stripped of clothing and bearing clear signs of sexual assault.
Confirmed Sexual Assault Before Murder
Police spokesperson PLT. James Caang confirmed that post-mortem examination revealed Elma Rose was raped before being killed. “There are clear indications of sexual abuse prior to her death,” Caang stated. The revelation has fueled public anger, with many demanding that the perpetrators face the harshest punishment under the law.
Last Seen Alive
On Sunday, November 16, around 4 p.m., the uncle and niece left their home to buy meat in Poblacion, Magpet. They never returned. Their motorcycle was later found abandoned near the crime scene, further confirming foul play.
Authorities Condemn the Crime
Matalam Police Chief Lt. Col. Maileen Estrellan described the incident as “an act of extreme cruelty that must not go unpunished.” Brig. Gen. Arnold Ardiente, director of Police Regional Office-12, assured the public that investigators are working closely with barangay officials to identify and apprehend the suspects. “We will not stop until those responsible are brought to justice,” he declared.
