ZAMBOANGA CITY – A gasoline station attendant landed in jail after allegedly failing to remit the day’s collection amounting to ₱35,000, which he instead reportedly gambled away in a betting game known as “Scatter.”
The suspect, employed as a pump boy at a gasoline station in Barangay Putik, was arrested following complaints from the establishment’s management when the daily earnings went missing. Initial police investigation revealed that instead of turning over the collection, the attendant allegedly used the money to play Scatter—a local betting game.
Authorities from Police Station 5 in Divisoria immediately launched an operation after receiving the report, leading to the suspect’s apprehension. He is now detained while facing charges for qualified theft or estafa, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Police reminded employees handling company funds to uphold honesty and accountability, warning that misuse of entrusted money for gambling or personal interests will have serious legal consequences.
What could have been an ordinary day at work turned into a costly mistake—one that ended in detention and disgrace.
