DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur — A tragic three-vehicle collision along the Davao-Cotabato Road in Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City, left one person dead and nearly 20 others injured on Sunday morning, August 31, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. and involved a Kia Bonggo rescue vehicle of Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur, driven by Barangay Kagawad Alyne Rosales, 43, who was traveling with 14 passengers; a Suzuki FU150 motorcycle driven by 34-year-old Jonard of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; and an Isuzu cargo dropside truck driven by 43-year-old Alberto, also of Sta. Cruz.
Initial police investigation revealed that the rescue vehicle and the motorcycle were bound for Davao City when the dropside truck, coming from the opposite direction, lost control after a piece of wood reportedly got stuck on its brake pedal. This caused the truck to swerve into the opposite lane, crashing head-on into the rescue vehicle. The motorcycle then collided with the right side of the rescue vehicle due to the impact.
Responding personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Provincial DRRMO, and the police immediately rushed the victims to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital. Nearly 20 individuals, including passengers of the rescue vehicle and the motorcycle, sustained injuries.
Despite efforts of medical personnel, Rosales, the barangay kagawad who was driving the rescue vehicle, was declared dead at 8:45 a.m. He was reportedly returning home to Agusan del Sur with family members after attending a relative’s burial in Cotabato when the accident occurred.
The driver of the dropside truck, identified as Alberto, is currently under police custody for proper disposition pending further investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as both the barangay official’s family and other passengers recover from their injuries.
