BANSALAN, Davao del Sur — A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four people, including three children, when a cement mixer truck lost control and rammed pedestrians in Sitio Balagunon, Barangay Managa, Bansalan, on Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2025.
Police reports said the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when a Shacman truck mixer, driven by a 39-year-old man identified only as “Ron” from Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, swerved to the left side of the road after striking an uneven shoulder. The truck rolled down the roadside and struck three children who were walking nearby.
The victims were identified as “Ren,” 10; “Ronie,” 12; and “Jun,” 9, all residents of Sitio Balagunon. The children, along with the driver and his passenger “Lino,” 45, of Bangkal, Davao City, were immediately rushed to hospitals in Digos City and Davao del Sur.
Despite rescue efforts, all three children and the driver were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians. “Jun” was pronounced dead at Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital at 4:31 p.m., while “Ren” and “Ronie” were declared dead at Viacrusis Medical Hospital around 4:00 p.m. The driver succumbed to injuries at Viacrusis Medical Hospital at 6:00 p.m.
The truck passenger survived but sustained injuries. In his statement to authorities, he disclosed that he had warned the driver about the truck’s malfunctioning brakes before the accident occurred.
The heavily damaged cement mixer remained at the crash site as police investigators continued to process the scene. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the fatal accident.
