MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato (July 18, 2025) — A 54-year-old male college instructor from a private sectarian institution in Midsayap miraculously survived an ambush attempt Friday morning while driving to work in Barangay Poblacion 5.

According to the initial report from Lt. Col. Benhur Gorosin Catcatan, chief of the Midsayap Municipal Police Station, the victim was onboard his Ford Everest and en route to the school where he holds a high-ranking position when two men on a motorcycle pulled up beside his vehicle and opened fire. Fortunately, none of the bullets struck the victim.

In a stroke of quick thinking, the instructor managed to drive his vehicle directly into the school campus, evading further harm. The gunmen fled the scene immediately after the failed attempt.

Responding officers from the Midsayap Police are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Notre Dame of Midsayap College community, where the victim is employed. In a statement, the institution condemned the attack, saying:

“The Notre Dame of Midsayap College community is shocked and deeply appalled by the senseless attempt on the life of one of our personnel. Such violence has no place in our society and stands in stark contrast to the values of respect, dignity, and justice that we and the larger community of Midsayap strive to uphold.”

“Our thoughts are with our colleague and their loved ones during this difficult time, and we remain united in standing against violence in all its forms. We trust that the authorities will pursue this case to its rightful end, which is to serve justice and to ensure the safety and security of all.”

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim pending further investigation, while the public is urged to report any information that could help in identifying the assailants.
