CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Authorities from Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) intercepted an estimated ₱240,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes during a checkpoint operation in Barangay Bansarvil I, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte on Tuesday afternoon, July 8.

The operation, carried out around 2:00 PM by the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), in coordination with Kapatagan Municipal Police Station and the Sultan Naga Dimaporo Maritime Mobile Team, led to the discovery of six sacks of suspected smuggled cigarettes aboard an orange Mazda Bongo van.

The driver, identified as alias “Kali,” a 27-year-old resident of Salvador, Lanao del Norte, was accompanied by a 27-year-old jobless man from Siraway, Zamboanga City, and a 17-year-old minor.

According to police, the seized items included six sacks of New Far Red brand cigarettes, each containing 50 reams, with an estimated total value of ₱240,000. The items were reportedly transported from Sultan Naga Dimaporo en route to Kapatagan.

The suspects, the vehicle, and the confiscated cigarettes were brought to the Kapatagan Municipal Police Station for proper documentation. The smuggled goods will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Iligan City for disposition.

PBGEN Rolindo M. Suguilon, Regional Director of PRO10, commended the successful collaboration of law enforcement units, praising their vigilance in curbing the illegal trade of contraband in the region.

“This operation highlights our continued commitment to border control and anti-smuggling efforts across Northern Mindanao,” said Suguilon.
