TUPI, South Cotabato – A suspected thief was shot and killed by security guards after allegedly resisting arrest during an attempted pineapple theft in Sitio Capareda, Barangay Acmonan, past 6:00 AM on Monday, July 7, 2025.

The fatality was identified only by his alias “Prem,” a legal-aged resident of Barangay Polonuling in the same town.

According to report, security guards caught Prem and two companions in the act of loading stolen pineapples into a pickup vehicle, reportedly a rent-a-car. When confronted, a heated exchange followed and escalated into a gunfight, during which Prem was shot.

The suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities recovered around five grams of suspected shabu from the crime scene, suggesting possible links to illegal drug use or trade. Meanwhile, Prem’s two alleged accomplices managed to flee and are now the subject of a police manhunt.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident, including the legality of the suspects’ possession of the vehicle and any possible criminal records.
