Feasibility Study Launched for Landmark Agri-Fisheries Complex in Coastal Province

ALABEL, Sarangani — Sarangani Province, known for its vast coastline and rich marine resources, is gearing up for a transformative leap in its agricultural and fisheries development with the official launch of a feasibility study for its proposed Agri-Fisheries Complex.

The study, dubbed the Agri-Fisheries Synergy Nexus, was formally initiated during a coordination meeting between the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) on July 3, held at the JLC Conference Room. This marks the beginning of a major initiative that seeks to harness Sarangani’s coastal advantage and unlock the full potential of its agri-fishery sector.

DAP Acting Vice President Mark Lemuel Garcia underscored the goals of the study, which include identifying strategies to “open new markets, strengthen local value chains, and enhance the competitiveness of the province’s agri-fishery products.” The output of the study is expected to shape the structure and operational strategy of the future complex.

Soon, Governor Rogelio “Ruel” Pacquiao and DAP Officer-in-Charge Magdalena L. Mendoza will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to cement the collaboration, signaling a strong public-sector commitment to driving inclusive rural growth.

The envisioned Agri-Fisheries Complex is more than just a facility — it is a strategic hub designed to centralize the aggregation, processing, distribution, and marketing of locally produced agricultural and marine products. It aims to significantly increase market value and open doors to wholesale, retail, and institutional buyers both locally and beyond.

“This is a top priority of Governor Pacquiao,” said Provincial Agriculturist OIC Engr. Agnes Du, noting that the complex is expected to boost productivity, generate employment, and secure the province’s food supply.

Given Sarangani’s strategic location as a coastal province with access to the Sarangani Bay — one of the richest fishing grounds in the country — the establishment of such a complex is not just timely but critical. The facility will help reduce post-harvest losses, enhance the quality and safety of food products, and connect small-scale farmers and fisherfolk to larger markets.

Present during the inception meeting were key provincial leaders including Executive Assistant IV Ser Rosenkranz Espartero, Assistant Provincial Administrator Atty. Divine Grace Fernandez, and members of the technical working group for the project, all of whom expressed strong support for the endeavor.

With the launch of this study, Sarangani takes a concrete step toward building a resilient and market-driven agri-fisheries sector, ensuring that the province’s natural wealth directly benefits its people — from coastal communities to inland farms.
