In a bold move to highlight the crucial role of barangays in nation-building, the Galing Pook Foundation, in partnership with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Local Government Academy, has officially opened the call for applications for the 2025 Galing Pook Awards.
This year’s prestigious search will focus exclusively on barangay-level innovations, marking a significant shift in recognizing governance excellence at the grassroots—the very heart of community leadership in the Philippines.
“Barangays are the frontliners of public service. By recognizing their outstanding initiatives, we hope to inspire more communities to adopt creative and responsive governance practices,” the Galing Pook Foundation stated in its announcement.
A Platform for Local Heroes
Since its inception, the Galing Pook Awards have honored top-performing local government units (LGUs) for pioneering programs that deliver lasting impact. By turning the spotlight on barangays in 2025, the Awards aim to bring attention to the often unsung innovations and partnerships taking place in the country’s smallest administrative units.
To qualify, barangay initiatives must meet the following criteria:
- Operational Since November 2023 or Earlier
- Demonstrated Active Involvement of the Barangay LGU
- Utilized Existing Barangay Governance Mechanisms, even if initiated by the community, NGOs, CSOs, or other LGUs
- Verifiable and Significant Results that make a difference in the lives of residents
This ensures that the recognized programs are not only recent but also rooted in good governance and genuine community impact.
