CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte (June 22, 2025) — A wounded member of the Dawlah Islamiyah – Hassan Group, a local terrorist organization, was captured by government forces following an armed clash in Barangay Alamada, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, early Saturday morning.
The suspect was identified as Kamsa Budjal, who also goes by the aliases Ustads, Ali, and Oding. Budjal, believed to be part of the dwindling Dawlah Islamiyah-Hassan Group, was injured during the gunfight that broke out at around 5:40 a.m. and was apprehended by troops of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT).
According to Brigadier General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, Commander of 1BCT, Budjal sustained injuries during the firefight between his group and government troops who launched the targeted operation. He was immediately given medical treatment despite being a member of the armed group.
“Though he belongs to an enemy group, we extended immediate medical assistance to Budjal. This reflects our Armed Forces’ commitment to humane treatment, even toward adversaries,” said Brig. Gen. Cagara. “His arrest delivers a significant blow to their already weakening group and successfully foiled a possible act of sabotage against our communities.”
Soldiers recovered a cache of weapons and equipment from the encounter site, including an M653 rifle, an M16 AI, a shotgun, ammunition, IED components, medical supplies, subversive documents, cellphones, and other paraphernalia.
Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and head of Joint Task Force Central, commended the troops for the success of the operation.
“Our troops demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication to service,” Maj. Gen. Gumiran said. “This successful operation is a significant step forward in our campaign to eradicate terrorism and safeguard our communities. To the remaining members of the group — now is the time to surrender, lay down your arms, and choose the path of peace.”
Authorities reaffirm their resolve to continue the intensified military offensives until all remnants of extremist threats are dismantled in the region.
