CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A Korean national wanted for tax-related offenses in South Korea and subject of an active Interpol Red Notice was arrested in Misamis Oriental on June 13, 2025, through a coordinated law enforcement operation.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Jang,” 53, male, married, and temporarily residing in Barangay Igpit, Opol, Misamis Oriental, was apprehended at around 2:45 p.m. along the National Highway in the said barangay.

“Jang” was arrested by virtue of an Interpol Red Notice bearing Control Number A-1848/3-2022, issued for his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities in violation of Articles 3 and 11 of South Korea’s Punishment of Tax Offenses Act.

The operation was a joint effort of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cagayan de Oro City Field Unit, Opol Municipal Police Station, Regional Intelligence Division 10 (RID-10), Regional Special Operations Unit 10 (RSOU-10), Korean National Police, and the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to the CIDG Regional Field Unit 10 at Camp Evangelista in Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City for proper documentation. He was later transferred to the Bureau of Immigration in Manila for further legal proceedings and coordination with South Korean authorities.

Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, lauded the success of the operation and emphasized the value of inter-agency and international cooperation in locating and arresting foreign fugitives hiding in the Philippines.

“This arrest is a testament to the Philippine National Police’s commitment to upholding international law and ensuring that the country does not become a safe haven for wanted individuals,” De Guzman said.
