Zamboanga City – May 26, 2025 — A fatal shooting incident in downtown Zamboanga claimed the life of a man and left another critically injured late Monday afternoon along Gov. Alvarez Street, a bustling area in the heart of the city.

The primary victim, identified as Michael Perez, a resident of Barangay Tumaga, was shot at close range by unidentified suspects while he was at the Cariño compound. According to the initial police report, Perez sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

A second victim, believed to have been hit by a stray bullet, remains unidentified. The individual is reported to be in critical condition as of this writing. Authorities are working to verify the person’s identity and provide updates on their medical status.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend those responsible. The incident has caused alarm among residents and passersby in the usually busy commercial area.
