Marantao, Lanao del Sur – May 6, 2025 — In a decisive operation supporting ongoing election security efforts, police operatives from the Marantao Municipal Police Station arrested a 46-year-old man for illegal possession of a firearm in Barangay Banga, Pantar, Marantao, Lanao del Sur.
Provincial Director PCOL Robert S. Daculan of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDS PPO) commended the Marantao police team for their swift and effective response during an intensified intelligence-driven foot patrol operation held around 4:30 PM.
Authorities spotted the suspect with a visible firearm tucked into his waist. When asked to present documentation authorizing possession of the weapon, he failed to produce any legal papers.
Recovered from the suspect was a LLAMA Cal. 9mm PARABELLUM pistol (serial number 172516), loaded with a magazine containing three live rounds of ammunition.
Police officers arrested the suspect on the spot, informing him of his constitutional rights in the Maranao dialect. He was brought to the Marantao Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and further investigation.
The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban under the Omnibus Election Code.
The Lanao del Sur PPO emphasized its continued commitment to intensifying anti-criminality campaigns and ensuring public safety during the election period.
