Asuncion, Davao del Norte – May 6, 2025 — Two male college students who had been missing for two days were found dead in a suspected motorcycle accident early Tuesday morning in Purok 3, Barangay Buclad, Asuncion, Davao del Norte.

At around 7:20 a.m., a motorist identified as Kevin Dulao reported to the local police station that he discovered two decomposing male bodies near a grassy cliff beside the road. Responding to the report, a team led by PMAJ Collin S. Rama of the Asuncion Municipal Police Station proceeded to the scene and confirmed the presence of the two cadavers.

The victims were later identified as James Diansay Magapang and Franklein Roluna Lasaca, both 21 years old, single, and residents of Purok 12B, Barangay Calian, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. The two were reportedly college students.

Alongside the bodies, investigators found a heavily damaged Honda Beat motorcycle with temporary plate number 1101-872401, registered under the name of Lalaine D. Medios. The vehicle appeared to have crashed, breaking a nearby palm tree, which authorities believe contributed to the fatal incident.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) from the Davao Norte Provincial Forensic Unit, led by PMAJ Kriz D. Chavez, processed the area. The initial investigation revealed that the victims were last seen on the night of May 3 after visiting a bar in Tagum City. According to reports, they left their companions at around 4:00 a.m. on May 4 and were presumed to be on their way home when the accident occurred.

Due to the location of the crash—partially hidden from view—no one witnessed the incident, and the bodies were not discovered until two days later.

Authorities found no signs of foul play, and the victims’ families have declined an autopsy, believing the deaths were the result of a tragic accident.

The local police continue to monitor the area to prevent similar incidents and remind motorists to take extra caution, especially when traveling during the early hours.
