April 30, 2025 – Iligan City, Philippines — Two individuals were arrested on April 29 by personnel of Iligan City Police Station 4 (ICPS4) for violating the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Gun Ban and for usurpation of authority during a checkpoint operation in Brgy. Mahayahay, Iligan City.

The arrest took place along Roxas Avenue as part of the intensified enforcement of election-related security measures. Authorities flagged down a white Toyota Hi-ace Commuter Van occupied by two men later identified only as alias “Uno,” a 45-year-old driver from Caingin, Malolos, Bulacan, and alias “Nash,” a 33-year-old security guard from Poblacion, Marantao, Lanao del Sur.

According to the police report, the driver voluntarily opened the vehicle’s compartment during inspection, which led to the discovery of a caliber .45 pistol in plain view. The driver failed to present documents to support lawful possession of the firearm.

Further inspection revealed a Philippine National Police (PNP) Field Service Uniform with the nameplate “KAOL” hanging behind the driver’s seat. Alias “Nash” claimed ownership of the uniform and introduced himself as a police officer. However, he failed to produce any valid identification or official credentials confirming his status in the police force.

Among the items recovered were a John M. Browning caliber .45 pistol (serial number C10094), one Mec-Gar steel magazine, five live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, the Toyota van, and one upper FSU PNP uniform.

As a result, “Uno” will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the COMELEC Gun Ban. “Nash” will be charged with Usurpation of Authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.

The suspects, along with the confiscated items, were brought to ICPS4 for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges. The recovered firearm will be turned over to the Crime Laboratory for ballistics examination.

Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, commended the operating unit for their vigilance and commitment to safeguarding the electoral process.

“We are committed to upholding election laws and protecting the democratic process,” said De Guzman. “The recent arrests highlight our firm stance against illegal firearms and impersonating authorities. Such threats to public safety and trust in institutions will not be tolerated.”

Authorities urged the public to remain alert and cooperative, especially at election checkpoints, to ensure a safe and orderly election season.
