GLAN, Sarangani Province — A 65-year-old Barangay Agrarian Reform Council (BARC) chairperson was wounded after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Purok Islam, Barangay Cablalan, Glan, Sarangani Province, at around 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Police identified the victim as Joven Beng Beng Cariño, a resident of Glan who serves as the BARC Chairperson of Barangay Burias.

Based on the initial investigation by the Glan Municipal Police Station, Cariño was riding his motorcycle when he was allegedly followed by two men aboard a Honda RS motorcycle.

One of the suspects reportedly opened fire at Cariño while the two were traveling through the area.

Police described the motorcycle used by the suspects as having a blue-and-black color combination.

Cariño sustained gunshot wounds to various parts of his body. He was immediately transported to the Sarangani Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.

After the shooting, the two suspects reportedly fled toward Barangay Baliton, prompting police to launch a hot-pursuit operation in an effort to locate and arrest those responsible.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack, identify the gunmen, and determine the motive behind the shooting.

As of the initial police report, the identities of the suspects and the firearm used in the attack had not yet been established.

Police have urged anyone with information that could help identify the suspects or clarify the circumstances of the shooting to coordinate with the Glan Municipal Police Station.

The incident remains under investigation.
