BALO-I, Lanao del Norte — A long-standing family conflict was peacefully resolved after rival clans signed an amicable settlement agreement during a formal Rido Settlement and Reconciliation Program held at the Municipal Hall of Balo-i on July 1, 2026, marking another milestone in the municipality’s continuing peacebuilding efforts.

The settlement brought together the families of Nasroding D. Lope and Basher Mama Amidato, as well as the families of Walid A. Sumaguina and Nasroding D. Lope, ending hostilities through dialogue, mediation, and mutual understanding facilitated by local government officials and security forces.

The signing of the agreement symbolizes the parties’ commitment to permanently settle their differences, prevent further violence, and restore peaceful relations within their communities.

The peace initiative was spearheaded by Balo-i Municipal Mayor Hon. Elias Lope Ali, in collaboration with the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) headed by Hon. Najer Ali. The mediation process was also supported by Police Major Alibsar P. Daraba, Officer-in-Charge of the Balo-i Municipal Police Station; Captain John Benex M. Ebesate (INF), Philippine Army, Civil-Military Operations Officer of the 44th Infantry (Agile N Stable) Battalion; the Joint Peace and Security Team (JPST); barangay officials; and members of the families involved in the dispute.

Authorities said the successful settlement underscores the vital role of collaboration among local government units, law enforcement agencies, the military, barangay leaders, and community stakeholders in resolving conflicts through peaceful means instead of violence.

The dialogue emphasized reconciliation, forgiveness, and mutual respect, allowing both sides to openly discuss their grievances and reach a mutually acceptable resolution under the guidance of mediators.

Local officials described the agreement as a significant achievement in promoting lasting peace in Balo-i, noting that resolving rido, or clan feuds, is crucial in preventing retaliatory violence and ensuring the safety and stability of communities.

They also stressed that peacebuilding is a shared responsibility and called on residents to continue embracing dialogue, understanding, and cooperation in addressing disputes before they escalate into armed confrontations.

The participating stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining peace initiatives across the municipality, expressing hope that the successful mediation would serve as an example for other communities facing similar conflicts.

The signing of the amicable settlement agreement represents not only the end of a dispute between the involved families but also a renewed commitment to unity, reconciliation, and the preservation of peace in Balo-i and neighboring communities.
