LAKE SEBU, South Cotabato — A 32-year-old woman is currently recovering in the hospital after she was allegedly shot by her live-in partner, a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), following a heated confrontation in Sitio Blit, Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu.

According to the report released by the Lake Sebu Municipal Police Station (MPS), authorities received information from the Maitum Municipal Police Station at around 10:30 a.m. on May 29, 2026 regarding a female shooting victim who had been brought to their area for emergency medical treatment.
Police investigation revealed that the incident took place at around 10:00 p.m. on May 28 in Sitio Blit, Barangay Ned.
The victim, identified only by her alias “Jonalyn,” a 32-year-old housekeeper and resident of the area, allegedly sustained a gunshot wound in the neck after being shot by her live-in partner during a domestic altercation.
Authorities identified the suspect as alias “Lorico,” an adult male and member of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA), who also resides in the same community.
Initial investigation showed that the suspect had allegedly been drinking liquor prior to the incident. Police said the couple figured in a heated argument that escalated into a violent confrontation.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a caliber .38 revolver and shot the victim.
Despite her injuries, the victim survived the attack and was immediately rushed to the Maitum Municipal Hospital in Sarangani Province for emergency treatment before being transferred to the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City for further medical care.
Authorities are also looking into reports that jealousy may have been one of the possible motives behind the shooting, although police said the investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the shooting, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to 2Lt. Brainerd A. Sarol, Platoon Leader of Alpha Company, 105th Infantry Battalion, 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army. He was later turned over to the custody of the Lake Sebu MPS for proper disposition.
Police said the suspect is now facing a frustrated murder complaint in connection with the shooting.
Authorities assured the public that a thorough investigation is being conducted to determine all factors that led to the incident while legal proceedings against the suspect are being prepared.
