TANTANGAN, South Cotabato — Authorities have launched an investigation after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned at a commercial complex in Barangay Maibo, Tantangan, South Cotabato, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2.

The infant was discovered at around 3:00 a.m. inside the premises of the Meva Commercial Complex, where a carinderia operates, prompting immediate concern among residents and establishment personnel.

According to initial reports, the baby was left unattended in the area and was later found alive by individuals who immediately alerted authorities. CCTV footage obtained from the establishment reportedly captured an unidentified individual arriving at the location and leaving a paper bag before quickly walking away.

Investigators are currently reviewing the surveillance footage to determine the identity of the person believed to have abandoned the child. Authorities are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possible reasons behind the abandonment.

The newborn was promptly taken into protective custody and provided with the necessary medical attention to ensure his safety and well-being. Officials said the infant is now in stable condition and under the care of appropriate agencies while the investigation continues.

Police have yet to release additional details regarding the case, including whether any leads have emerged from the ongoing investigation. Efforts are also underway to locate the child’s parents or relatives.
