MATALAM, Cotabato – Authorities arrested a suspected drug personality and confiscated illegal drugs and a firearm during the implementation of a search warrant in Barangay Poblacion, Matalam, Cotabato on Monday, June 8.

The operation, led by the Matalam Municipal Police Station in coordination with other law enforcement units, was conducted in Purok Azucena, Barangay Poblacion as part of the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs and criminality.
Police said the search warrant was issued for violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which penalizes the possession of illegal drugs.
During the operation, authorities recovered approximately 20 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated Standard Drug Price (SDP) of ₱136,000. The seized illegal drugs were believed to be intended for distribution within the community.
Aside from the suspected shabu, law enforcement operatives also confiscated a caliber .38 revolver without ammunition, various drug paraphernalia, and other pieces of evidence linked to the suspect’s alleged illegal activities.
To ensure transparency and compliance with legal procedures, police conducted the marking and inventory of the recovered items at the scene in the presence of the suspect, a barangay official, and a representative from the media, as required under anti-drug operation protocols.
The arrested suspect was taken into police custody and is expected to face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, while authorities are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the possession of the seized firearm.
Police Colonel Ramel B. Hojilla, Acting Provincial Director of the Cotabato Police Provincial Office (CPPO), commended the operating units for the successful implementation of the search warrant and their continued efforts in combating illegal drugs in the province.
“The successful operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and ensuring the safety and security of our communities,” Hojilla said.
The CPPO reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations and strengthening law enforcement efforts aimed at dismantling drug networks and reducing criminal activities across Cotabato.
Authorities continue to encourage the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting illegal drug activities and other crimes in their communities as part of the collective effort to maintain peace and order in the province.
