KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato Province — A 40-year-old woman was arrested by operatives of the Kidapawan City Police Station after authorities allegedly discovered several packs of suspected smuggled cigarettes during a police patrol operation in Purok 7C, Barangay Sudapin on May 7, 2026.

According to police reports, officers conducting routine patrol operations noticed cigarette products openly displayed for sale that allegedly lacked the required graphic health warning labels mandated under Philippine law. When questioned by authorities, the suspect reportedly failed to present legal documents proving the legitimacy and origin of the cigarette products.
Confiscated from the suspect were various brands of cigarettes with an estimated total value of Php24,044.65. Authorities immediately conducted proper inventory and marking of the seized items in the presence of witnesses before bringing the suspect to the Kidapawan City Police Station for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
Police said the operation forms part of the intensified campaign against smuggling and other illegal trade activities in the province.
Cotabato Police Provincial Office officials reiterated their commitment to strengthening law enforcement efforts against the proliferation of illicit products, emphasizing that illegal cigarette trade not only violates national laws but also deprives the government of tax revenues and poses risks to consumers due to unregulated products.
The suspect remains under police custody while authorities prepare the necessary charges related to the possession and sale of suspected smuggled cigarettes.
