A 69-year-old farmer was found dead behind a house in Sitio Lumondao, Barangay Marilog, Marilog District in Davao City on the morning of May 26, with authorities believing that intoxication may have led to a fatal fall from a staircase.

The victim was identified as Lorenzo Bangcas, a single farmer and resident of the area. According to the report from the Marilog Police Station, Bangcas was discovered lying motionless on the ground at around 7:00 a.m. by a 12-year-old neighbor who was hanging laundry nearby.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim was last seen alive on the afternoon of May 25 while drinking at a local eatery in Sitio Lumondao. Witnesses, including a co-worker identified as Juliet Ado, said Bangcas appeared heavily intoxicated when he left the establishment and headed home.

Police investigators later found that the staircase leading to the victim’s house was slippery, leading authorities to believe that Bangcas may have accidentally slipped and lost his balance while attempting to climb the stairs. He reportedly fell to the ground and sustained fatal injuries.

Responders from the Barangay Marilog Emergency Response Team declared the victim dead at the scene.

Authorities emphasized that no signs of foul play were found during the investigation, strengthening the theory that the incident was accidental and likely caused by severe intoxication.

The remains of the victim were later brought to Angel Funeral Homes in Calinan for proper disposition.
