MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia — Deep sorrow has enveloped the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) following the passing of a female pilgrim identified as Montaha M. Panyong, who died while performing the sacred Hajj pilgrimage in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Based on initial information, Panyong passed away in the vicinity of the Masjid al-Haram, the holiest site in Islam and the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage. Authorities and companions believe that extreme fatigue, combined with underlying health conditions, may have contributed to her untimely death as she fulfilled one of the most significant obligations of the Muslim faith.

Her sudden passing came amid the physically demanding rituals of Hajj, where millions of pilgrims from around the world gather in intense heat and crowded conditions to complete their spiritual journey. Despite the challenges, she was reportedly determined to carry out her pilgrimage with devotion and sincerity.

Montaha M. Panyong was a member of the Bangsamoro Women’s Auxiliary Brigade (BWAB), and her colleagues described her as a committed and faithful individual whose dream of performing Hajj was finally realized this year.

News of her death has brought profound grief to her family, friends, and community back home in BARMM. Tributes and messages of condolence have poured in, reflecting the deep respect and affection she earned during her lifetime. Many have remembered her as a devout Muslim whose life was rooted in faith, humility, and service.

As the community mourns, prayers continue to be offered for the eternal peace of her soul. Her loved ones are asking for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness, hoping she will be granted Jannatul Firdaus, the highest paradise in Islam.
