Authorities identified the victim as a resident of Barangay Hinaplanon, while the suspect, a 42-year-old man, also lives in the same neighborhood.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was cutting wood outside his home along a narrow alleyway when the suspect suddenly confronted him. Without any clear provocation, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim’s bolo and struck him violently, inflicting five severe lacerations that led to the young man’s immediate death.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the suspect relentlessly attack the victim, which resulted in the fatal injuries. Police recovered the weapon, described as a metal bolo approximately one meter in length.
The suspect was promptly apprehended and is currently in custody at Iligan City Police Station 1. He was brought to Don Gregorio T. Lluch Memorial Hospital to treat injuries he sustained from bystanders who intervened during the attack, and authorities recommended that he remain hospitalized under police supervision.
Police said the crime may have been fueled by a longstanding grudge between the suspect and the victim, although the exact motive is still under investigation.
Officials are urging anyone with additional information on the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into the fatal attack.
