MATALAM, Cotabato — What was supposed to be a casual drinking session turned violent after three men hacked each other with a bolo and a hacksaw in Purok Inanama, Barangay Taculen, at around 5:00 p.m. on March 25, 2026.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Alex,” 40, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Kilada, Matalam. The two injured victims were identified as alias “Danny” and alias “Noli,” both of legal age and residents of Purok Inanama.

According to the initial investigation by the Matalam Municipal Police Station, the three were drinking together when a heated argument suddenly erupted. Under the influence of alcohol, the altercation quickly escalated into violence.

Reports said “Alex” allegedly attacked “Danny” and “Noli” with a hacksaw. However, “Noli” was able to fight back using a bolo, resulting in injuries to the suspect as well. One of the men was also wounded while attempting to intervene during the confrontation.

All three injured individuals were immediately rushed to a hospital in nearby Kabacan for medical treatment. Authorities said the victims remain under observation as they recover from their wounds.

Responding police officers swiftly arrested the suspect, who is now under the custody of the Matalam Police. The hacksaw and bolo used in the incident were recovered at the scene and will serve as key evidence in the filing of charges.

Police said appropriate criminal charges are being prepared against the suspect, who is believed to have initiated the attack.

Authorities also reminded the public to avoid excessive alcohol consumption, especially when handling sharp objects, as it can lead to violent and life-threatening incidents.

The incident underscores the dangers of alcohol-fueled disputes, which can quickly spiral into serious violence and put lives at risk.
