Authorities intercepted a suspected smuggler and seized more than ₱270,000 worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes during an intensified checkpoint operation in Barangay Bauyan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte on March 8, 2026.

Personnel from the 2nd Maneuver Platoon of the 1005th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB-10) carried out the operation in coordination with local police units as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal smuggling activities in the province.
According to authorities, a white Mazda mini-van approached the checkpoint but attempted to evade inspection, prompting police personnel to pursue the vehicle. The van was eventually intercepted, and officers conducted a thorough inspection.
During the search, authorities discovered 338 reams of suspected smuggled cigarettes inside the vehicle. The seized items included brands Fort Menthol, New Far, and Milano, which authorities believe were brought into the country illegally.
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) placed the estimated value of the confiscated cigarettes at ₱270,400.
The driver of the vehicle was immediately apprehended after failing to present legal documents or proof of legitimate transport for the cigarettes. Authorities also confiscated the mini-van used to transport the contraband.
The suspect, along with the seized items, was brought to the appropriate authorities for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges, which may include violations related to smuggling and customs laws.
Police officials emphasized that the operation is part of intensified measures by law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal trade of smuggled goods, which undermines legitimate businesses and deprives the government of tax revenues.
Authorities also reiterated their commitment to strengthen checkpoint operations and intelligence monitoring across key routes in Lanao del Norte to prevent the transport and distribution of smuggled products.
Law enforcement agencies urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities that may be linked to smuggling operations.
