GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 53-year-old security guard was wounded after being shot by an armed individual while on duty inside a subdivision in Barangay City Heights on Friday night, March 20, 2026, in an incident that has raised fresh concerns over safety in residential communities.

The victim, identified only as alias “Richard,” a resident of Barangay Conel, was on duty at the entrance of Tierra Eusebio Subdivision when the shooting occurred at around 9:00 p.m.

According to a police blotter report from Police Station 4, authorities received information about the shooting at approximately 9:44 p.m. Responding officers immediately rushed to the scene, where they found the victim still conscious but already wounded. He was swiftly transported to the nearest hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Police units, including the Mobile Patrol Unit of the General Santos City Police Office and SWAT personnel, quickly secured the crime scene, particularly the subdivision’s entrance and exit points.

Moments later, a vehicle arrived at the scene carrying a man and a woman. The male driver, identified only as alias “Emerson,” reportedly admitted to shooting the victim. He voluntarily surrendered to authorities and handed over a caliber .45 Taurus pistol, along with a loaded magazine, during his surrender.

Initial forensic processing conducted by the Regional Forensic Unit 12 (Scene of the Crime Operatives) led to the recovery of one fired bullet, two spent cartridge cases from a .45 caliber firearm, a ball cap, and a pair of shoes believed to belong to the victim.

Based on the victim’s account to investigators, the suspect allegedly arrived at the subdivision while under the influence of alcohol. A heated argument reportedly ensued between the two, escalating into violence. The suspect allegedly drew his firearm from a sling bag. The guard attempted to disarm him, but multiple gunshots were fired, leaving him injured.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect and the firearm used in the incident are now under the custody of Police Station 4. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and to establish appropriate charges.

The incident underscores the risks faced by security personnel tasked with safeguarding communities, as police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior immediately.
