MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — A 51-year-old employee of the local government unit (LGU) was shot dead in a brazen morning attack on Friday, March 27, 2026, in a remote village in this city, police said.

The victim, identified as Boboy Alimpipinig, married and a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Maligaya, was gunned down around 8:20 a.m. in Sitio Dumayas. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival due to multiple gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.
Authorities from the Malaybalay City Police Station (CPS) identified the primary suspect as Jerry Pangonahon Sr., a resident of the same barangay. The suspect reportedly fled toward a mountainous area shortly after the shooting, prompting police to launch a hot pursuit operation.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect had a prior conflict and had even undergone a barangay settlement just a day before the incident. Investigators are now looking into whether the shooting was directly linked to that dispute.
Police said a personal grudge, possibly stemming from a land conflict, is among the primary motives being considered. However, authorities emphasized that further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the killing.
“The victim sustained several gunshot wounds from a firearm, which caused his immediate death,” police said in their report.
The incident has alarmed residents of Barangay Maligaya, particularly in Sitio Dumayas, where the shooting occurred in broad daylight.
Law enforcement authorities continue to intensify operations to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large as of this writing.
Officials are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately coordinate with local police as efforts continue to deliver justice for the slain government employee.
