ALABEL, Sarangani Province (March 24, 2026) — A gruesome domestic violence case in Barangay Alegria, Alabel town, ended in tragedy after a man accused of killing his wife was later found dead, hanging from a tree with his head already severed.

Police identified the suspect as Willy Guinang, an adult resident of Purok Malaya, Barangay Alegria. He was the primary suspect in the fatal stabbing of his wife, Mary Grace Guinang, a utility worker at Alegria Central Elementary School.
According to initial police reports, Guinang’s decomposing body was discovered at around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in a grassy area of Purok Ahai. Authorities responded after receiving a report from a concerned citizen about a foul odor and a man seen hanging from a mango tree.
Upon arrival, responding officers confirmed the presence of a lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition. The remains were later identified by family members, as confirmed by Lt. Col. Benjie Ancheta.
Investigators said the victim appeared to have died by suicide, possibly several days prior to the discovery. The condition of the body indicated that it had been hanging for an extended period, leading to the severing of the head due to decomposition.
The discovery came days after Guinang allegedly fled following the killing of his wife. Reports indicate that Mary Grace Guinang was stabbed to death outside a school in Barangay Alegria last week, reportedly following a heated argument between the couple.
Authorities also revealed that the wife’s body had remained undiscovered for at least three days before it was found, further highlighting the disturbing timeline of the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the full sequence of events, including the motive behind the killing and the exact circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
The twin incidents have shocked the local community, raising renewed concerns over domestic violence and the need for stronger intervention mechanisms to prevent such tragedies.
Officials urge the public to report cases of abuse and seek help from authorities or community leaders before conflicts escalate into violence.
