GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 16-year-old Grade 9 student was injured after reportedly jumping from the third floor of a school building at a public school in this city early Thursday morning, March 5, prompting authorities and school officials to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. when the female student asked permission from her teacher to leave the classroom to use the restroom. Minutes later, teachers and students inside the building were startled by a loud thud coming from the ground floor area of the campus.

When school personnel rushed to check what had happened, they discovered the student lying on the ground after allegedly jumping from the third floor of the school building.

The student sustained multiple bruises and injuries on different parts of her body but survived the fall. She was immediately brought to a hospital in the city where she is currently receiving treatment and undergoing further medical examinations and laboratory tests to ensure her condition remains stable.

In an initial statement, the student reportedly told authorities that something or someone had pushed her to go to the third floor and jump. She also revealed that she had been experiencing depression in recent days, raising concerns about her mental and emotional well-being.

Despite the alarming incident, school officials later said the student is now in stable condition while continuing to receive medical care at a private hospital.

Authorities have yet to release additional details about the case as investigators continue to gather information from school staff, classmates, and other possible witnesses. The school administration is also conducting its own inquiry to determine what exactly led to the incident.

Meanwhile, police and school officials reminded parents and educational institutions of the importance of closely monitoring the mental health and emotional condition of young people. They emphasized the need to provide guidance, support, and open communication with students to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

The investigation remains ongoing.
