Nabalawag, Special Geographic Area (SGA) – Fear once again gripped residents of Purok 7, Barangay Damatulan after renewed gunfire and clashes erupted near their community, forcing families to flee their homes in the final hours of Ramadan.

According to initial reports, bursts of gunfire rang out before dawn, triggering panic among villagers who had only recently begun returning after an earlier disturbance. With tensions escalating, families hurriedly evacuated to safer areas, abandoning their belongings in a desperate bid to ensure their safety.

The latest violence disrupted not only daily life but also religious observance. Several residents said they were unable to partake in suhoor (pre-dawn meal), an essential practice during fasting, due to the sudden outbreak of hostilities.

The confrontation, reportedly involving two unidentified groups, reignited fears in the community and underscored the fragile security situation in the area. Witnesses described scenes of confusion and terror, particularly among children and elderly residents, as gunshots echoed across the village.

Just a day earlier, the 33rd Infantry Battalion, in coordination with local peace mechanisms, had initiated dialogue efforts aimed at facilitating the safe return of displaced civilians. However, these plans were abruptly derailed by the renewed outbreak of violence overnight.

Residents expressed frustration and exhaustion over the cycle of displacement. Some had attempted to return to their homes following assurances of improved security, only to be forced out again within hours due to the latest clash.

Local authorities remain on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation. As of this writing, there are no confirmed reports of casualties or injuries, but officials warn that the security threat remains active.

Community leaders have called for immediate de-escalation, urging the conflicting parties to prioritize peace and dialogue—especially during Ramadan, a period that symbolizes unity, reflection, and forgiveness in the Muslim faith.

The repeated displacement has taken a toll on affected families, many of whom are now seeking temporary shelter with limited resources. With uncertainty looming, residents are left hoping for swift intervention to restore stability and allow them to safely return home.

Authorities continue to advise the public to remain vigilant and to follow official advisories as efforts to contain the situation and protect civilians remain ongoing.
