Authorities in the municipality of Impasug-ong successfully rescued a woman who allegedly attempted to jump from Atugan Bridge on Sunday morning, March 8, marking the fourth reported suicide attempt at the site since the beginning of 2026.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. when concerned individuals noticed the woman positioned at the edge of the bridge, apparently preparing to leap into the deep ravine below. Authorities and responders quickly intervened and managed to secure the woman before she could carry out the attempt.
The identity of the woman has not yet been disclosed by authorities as of this writing.
The alarming incident came just two days after another rescue operation at the same bridge. On Friday, March 6, a minor was also prevented from jumping after swift action by personnel from the 1st Bukidnon Provincial Mobile Force Company, who were able to save the teenager in time.
Residents expressed growing concern over the increasing number of suicide attempts at the bridge. Social media posts documenting the incident have also circulated online, with one witness describing the distressing situation.
In a Facebook post, netizen Jennifer Abenales Araña wrote in Cebuano: “Nasapon nasad karun sa Atugan Bridge nga ga attempt ug ambak… Grabe ang depression ron panahona gyud,” expressing concern over what she described as worsening depression affecting many people.
Local officials and community members have since renewed calls for stronger mental health interventions and preventive measures in the area. The repeated incidents have also prompted suggestions for increased patrols, the installation of safety barriers, and crisis intervention signage at the bridge.
Since January 2026, authorities have recorded at least four suicide attempts at Atugan Bridge, raising alarm among residents and local leaders who fear the structure may be becoming a hotspot for such incidents.
Mental health advocates have urged the public to remain vigilant and supportive of individuals who may be struggling with emotional distress, emphasizing the importance of early intervention, community support, and access to mental health services.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring the area and coordinating with local government units to implement preventive strategies aimed at stopping further incidents.
