MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon — A 32-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by his own brother-in-law during a violent incident late Tuesday evening, March 3, in Sitio New Ilocos, Barangay Dalwangan.

The victim, identified only as alias “Melvin,” sustained stab wounds to the chest and arm after being attacked inside his home by the suspect, alias “Elmer,” 46, who is married and also a resident of the same community.
According to reports, the stabbing occurred at around 9:00 p.m., sending shockwaves among residents of the quiet rural village.
Authorities said the suspect was later arrested by members of the Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) in the area and subsequently turned over to the police for proper custody and investigation.
Initial accounts from the suspect’s mother-in-law revealed that Elmer had arrived at her residence earlier that night in an intoxicated state and forcibly took his minor daughter with him. However, the child later returned home crying and visibly distressed.
Moments later, the suspect allegedly returned to the house armed with a knife and a dagger. Witnesses said he forced his way inside the residence and suddenly attacked his brother-in-law, who was sitting in the living room at the time.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds before neighbors and family members could intervene.
He was immediately rushed to the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center in Malaybalay City where he received emergency treatment. Medical personnel later declared him out of immediate danger and currently in stable condition.
Police investigators said intoxication is being considered as a possible motive behind the violent outburst, though further investigation is underway to determine whether deeper family conflicts may have triggered the attack.
Authorities are preparing appropriate criminal charges against the suspect, who remains under police custody.
The incident highlights the dangers of domestic disputes escalating into violence, particularly when fueled by alcohol, prompting local officials to call for stronger community vigilance and intervention in family-related conflicts.
