Authorities arrested two individuals in an entrapment operation targeting the illegal sale of gasoline in Mati City on February 25, 2026, as police intensified efforts to curb unlawful fuel distribution and related activities in the area.

The operation was jointly conducted by operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Mati City Police Station at Landing Fish Madang in Barangay Central.
According to authorities, the suspects were caught during the sting operation while allegedly engaged in the illegal storage and sale of gasoline. Seized from them were gasoline estimated to be worth around ₱151,200, along with various illegal equipment valued at approximately ₱750,000, bringing the total estimated value of confiscated items to over ₱900,000.
Police said the recovered equipment was allegedly being used to facilitate the unlawful handling and distribution of fuel, which poses potential safety risks and violates existing regulations on fuel storage and trade.
Investigators are now preparing appropriate charges against the arrested individuals, whose identities have yet to be publicly disclosed pending further documentation and case build-up.
Authorities emphasized that the operation is part of the continuing campaign against illegal activities that threaten public safety and order in the city. The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious or illegal activities in their communities.
Officials stressed that public participation remains crucial in maintaining peace and order, noting that community support can significantly help authorities prevent similar illegal operations across Mati City.
