MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — In a powerful demonstration of inclusive governance and compassionate healthcare, the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, under the leadership of Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang, has joined forces with Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital to bring hope and healing to children with treatable disabilities across the province.

On February 3, the Provincial Capitol Gym was transformed into a hub of medical care and human solidarity as the partners launched the “NLD: Nagkakaisang Lalawigan para sa Disability Sector” program—highlighted by a mobile medical screening and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at providing free, high-quality medical services to children with physical deformities and disabilities.

Early Intervention, Lifelong Impact

The initiative focuses on children who require early medical intervention—conditions that can still be corrected, improved, or managed through timely surgery, therapy, and specialized care. Young patients from various municipalities in Davao Oriental underwent comprehensive screening and assessment conducted by volunteer doctors, medical experts, and healthcare professionals.

Each child was carefully evaluated to determine the most appropriate treatment plan, ensuring that no case was overlooked and that every patient received a clear pathway toward recovery and improved quality of life.

“This program is about giving children a chance at a better future,” one health worker said. “Early intervention can mean the difference between lifelong disability and full mobility.”

Zero Billing, Maximum Care

Peter Cowles, Executive Director of Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to serving underprivileged families.

“We will bring you the best treatment with zero billing,” Cowles said, emphasizing that no family would be burdened by medical expenses.

He also expressed gratitude to the provincial government for building a strong partnership that allows the hospital to reach more children in remote and underserved communities.

Sustained Support Beyond Screening

Through the support of the provincial government, beneficiaries will also receive free transportation for follow-up consultations, surgical procedures, and rehabilitation services at Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital in Davao City. This ensures continuity of care—often a major challenge for families living far from specialized medical facilities.

Rehabilitation programs and regular monitoring will further help patients regain strength, confidence, and independence.

Advancing Inclusive Healthcare

Provincial officials stressed that the program goes beyond a one-day medical mission. Instead, it represents a long-term commitment to strengthening inclusive healthcare systems, especially for persons with disabilities.

Governor Dayanghirang underscored that no child should be denied medical care because of poverty or geography.

“This partnership reflects our belief that every child deserves a chance to live fully and with dignity,” a provincial spokesperson said.

A Model of Compassionate Governance

For many parents who brought their children to the screening, the program was nothing short of life-changing. Some traveled for hours, carrying with them hopes that had long been overshadowed by financial hardship and limited access to specialized care.

With expert diagnosis, guaranteed treatment, and government-backed support, those hopes are now within reach.

As Davao Oriental continues to strengthen collaborations with humanitarian institutions, the NLD: Nagkakaisang Lalawigan para sa Disability Sector initiative stands as a model of how public service, private philanthropy, and medical expertise can unite to transform lives—one child at a time.
