BANSALAN, Davao del Sur — Two habal-habal drivers were seriously injured after a violent machete and knife attack erupted at the Bansalan Public Bus Terminal on Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 2026, prompting swift police response and raising concerns over public safety in crowded transport hubs.

The incident occurred at around 3:35 p.m. and was first reported by a concerned citizen, according to the Bansalan Municipal Police Station (MPS).
Police identified the individuals involved as alias “Pedro,” 67, married, a habal-habal driver and resident of Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Rizal, and alias “Lando,” 51, married, also a habal-habal driver from Sitio New Cebu, Barangay New Clarin.
Based on CCTV footage reviewed by authorities, Lando was seated on his motorcycle while waiting for passengers when Pedro arrived armed with a machete locally known as lagaraw. Without warning, Pedro allegedly attacked Lando, striking him twice and hitting his right arm.
Despite being wounded, Lando managed to flee the scene using his motorcycle. Pedro then proceeded toward the public market while still carrying the bladed weapon.
Moments later, Lando reportedly returned holding a knife, chased Pedro, and stabbed him multiple times in different parts of the body, inflicting serious injuries.
Responding officers, led by PMSG Oliver Nerona and PCpl Gresselle Louie Pahila, immediately assisted the victims and rushed them to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Investigator PSSG Donald D. Pedregosa also proceeded to Via Crusis Hospital to conduct initial documentation and inquiry.
Pedro was first treated at Via Crusis Hospital before being transferred to Digos Provincial Hospital for further medical care. Lando was initially brought to MABAMA Hospital and later referred to the Mindanao Center for Diagnostic and Care (MCDC) in Digos City for surgical operation.
Fellow habal-habal drivers told police that a heated argument had taken place between the two men prior to the violent encounter, suggesting that the attack stemmed from a personal dispute.
Bansalan police, under the leadership of Police Major Darryl Francis N. Ramos, chief of police, said a deeper investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the altercation and to prepare the appropriate legal charges.
Authorities also reminded the public, particularly transport workers, to resolve conflicts through proper legal channels and avoid resorting to violence that endangers lives and public safety.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for heightened security and conflict mediation in busy transport terminals, where disputes can quickly escalate into deadly confrontations.
