A 33-year-old man was seriously wounded after being shot and robbed of his motorcycle by unidentified assailants in a daring riding-in-tandem attack in Barangay Margues, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte this morning, February 14.
The victim was identified by Municipal Councilor Datu Rahib Diocolano as Datu Wel Diocolano, a resident of the same barangay and the son of a barangay councilor.
Ambushed While Riding
Based on initial police and barangay reports, the victim was traveling along the barangay road on his blue Yamaha NMAX motorcycle when he was suddenly tailed by two armed men riding another motorcycle.
Authorities said the suspects drew close to the victim and immediately opened fire, hitting him several times in the back. The victim lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the road.
After the shooting, one of the suspects forcibly took the victim’s motorcycle before fleeing with his companion toward the eastern direction.
Multiple Gunshot Wounds
Investigators confirmed that the victim sustained at least four gunshot wounds. During the crime scene processing, authorities recovered several empty shells believed to have come from a .45-caliber pistol, indicating the type of firearm used in the attack.
Barangay and municipal officials, including Kagawad Datu Rahib Maton Diocolano, quickly responded to the incident and rushed the wounded victim to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. He remains under close medical observation.
Authorities Launch Manhunt
Police have launched an intensive investigation and manhunt operation to identify and arrest the suspects. Investigators are reviewing possible CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathering statements from witnesses.
Authorities are also determining whether the attack was motivated by motorcycle theft, personal conflict, or other criminal reasons.
Call for Public Cooperation
Local officials called on residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
“We urge the public to cooperate and share any information that could help solve this case,” Councilor Diocolano said.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of motorists in the area, prompting calls for stronger police presence and tighter security along major and interior roads in the municipality.
The investigation remains ongoing.
