TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — February 3, 2026 — A former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) has formally returned to the fold of the law after surrendering to the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office (SDSPPO), marking another milestone in the province’s ongoing campaign for peace, security, and reconciliation.

The surrender took place at Camp Hon. Vicente L. Pimentel Sr. in Barangay Telaje, Tandag City. The individual, a resident of Barangay Bagyang, San Miguel, yielded to authorities through the successful mediation and assistance of Hon. Datu Jimmy Guinsod, underscoring the critical role of tribal leaders in peacebuilding efforts across the province.

Police Colonel Mauricio, Provincial Director of the SDSPPO, lauded the former rebel’s decision, describing it as an act of courage and responsibility not only for himself but for the wider community.

“His decision to choose peace over conflict is a significant step toward a more stable and prosperous Surigao del Sur,” PCOL Mauricio said, emphasizing that every surrender weakens the cycle of violence and strengthens public safety.

Authorities said the SDSPPO, in close coordination with local government units and tribal leaders, is now processing the individual’s enrollment under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The program provides former rebels with livelihood assistance, psychosocial support, and reintegration services aimed at helping them rebuild their lives as productive members of society.

Police officials noted that the surrender reflects the growing trust between communities and law enforcement, fueled by sustained dialogue, localized peace initiatives, and culturally sensitive engagement with Indigenous and community leaders.

“This development highlights the effectiveness of collaboration between the Philippine National Police and tribal leadership,” the SDSPPO said in a statement. “By working hand in hand, we continue to dismantle the influence of the CTG and promote a lasting culture of peace and order throughout Surigao del Sur.”

The provincial police reiterated their call for other armed group members to lay down their arms and avail themselves of government programs, stressing that peaceful reintegration remains a viable path toward stability, development, and inclusive growth in the province.
